SUMMARY:Day seminar with Dr. Udo Ganslosser and Dr. Adam Miklosi
DESCRIPTION:Canine Perceptual Abilities / Using All Senses / Hearing / Smell / Magnetic \ndr Adam Miklosi: Perceptual abilities of dogs \nPerception is the basis of survival and this capacity must always be adapted to the specific environment. While so much is known about canine talent and working ability\, so little is known about canine perception abilities. Until recently\, it was believed that dogs could only see in black and white\, and the idea that dogs are always in a ’scent cloud‘ survives to this day. And nobody knows what kind of sounds they hear or not. \nIn order to really appreciate dogs\, we need to have good data on their perceptual abilities. Only in this case one can expect a certain performance from them.  \n\nHow well or how far can a dog see\, and \nWhat perceptions does a dog use when communicating with people. \nDoes he really hear everything you say to him\, and what is the difference between hearing and understanding?\n\nIn this one-day seminar we will discuss sight\, hearing and smell through the explanation of the most modern scientific findings. \nSongs\, most of these scientific experiments are very complicated\, and you have to pay attention to a lot of little things. But such information is very important\, otherwise we can never know and understand how it is possible that dogs can smell cancer from urine or breath\, and whether this talent can be used in diagnostics or (yet) not.  \ndr Udo Ganslosser: Using all your senses: hearing / smell / magnetism \nIn recent years\, however\, other additional sensory abilities of canines have become known:  \n\nthe magnet sense – magnetic alignment in dogs\npossibly a heat sense / heat detector dog nose\,  \nspecial performance of the sense of smell and vision in adaptation to activity and habitat.\nUnderstanding the sensory performance is not entirely possible without physics\, but even that hardly hurts…\n\nSPEAKERS \ndr Udo Ganslosser\,  Priv.Doz. for Zoology at the Zool Institute and Museum of the Univ. Greifswald and lecturer at the Phylogenetic Museum and at the Institute for Special Zoology at the University of Jena\, regularly conducts courses in behavioral and zoological biology and gives guest lectures at other institutes\, takes on consulting activities for zoos\, animal parks and animal shelters\, advanced training events and publication supervision. dr Ganslosser is known for his extremely competent and entertaining lectures. \ndr Adam Miklosi \, – speaks German very well – will give an entertaining talk in detail about behavior and cognition and how dogs solve problems. “Budapest has been a metropolis for behavioral research on dogs for years. Under the research director Dr. Adam Miklosi\, the world’s largest working group for research into the relationship between dogs and humans was set up at Budapest’s Eötvös University. In contrast to earlier research\, the test animals are systematically tested here together with their caregivers. Because when it comes to social intelligence\, you have to keep an eye on both partners.
